Golden Week comes at a very pleasant time of the year in Japan; the temperature is neither too cold nor too hot. It’s the perfect week to travel for working adults, who rarely have a week-long holiday.

When I was a student, Golden Week was no big deal compared to the summer holiday. But since I joined the working adult category, I really look forward to this long break from my computer screen and phone calls. And today I was supposed to be enjoying the fresh air and mount Fuji view from my window, far from the city madness, surrounded by my friends, enjoying barbeque and beer. But here I am, still on my usual bed, refusing to get up and facing the truth that I am stuck for another week with my crazy old lady neighbor who yells every morning at 6 to I-don’t-know-and-I-don’t-want-to-know who.

It’s a really sad situation for everyone, for the people staying home and for the people working in the front line. But let’s each of us do our role in this situation. If you are the front liners, thank you for taking care of us, and if you are like me, please just STAY HOME! There’s always another Golden Week next year, but you don’t have another life. If you don’t care about your life, please do it for others. Stay safe, stay at home people!
