Hello! It’s been a while since my last post. How’s everyone doing?

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for me last year and that’s why I haven’t been able to post anything until today. Life has finally started to slow down again, and I have time to bake again. This time though, it’s not made from scratch but a baking kit I found in MUJI nearby my new home in Tokyo—yes, we’ve moved!

So, here’s the story. Since it’s almost Valentine’s day, there are lots of baking kit in MUJI store : Florentine, Brownies, Chocolate, etc. I didn’t have the intention to buy any since I could make them all from scratch, except one : Macaron. Originally I was only going to MUJI to buy some refill papers but I ended up paying for the baking kit in the cashier.

Macaron Baking Kit

This baking kit has everything in it except water and milk, easy ingredients that all households have I suppose. To make this we also need a hand mixer (a whisk is not enough to make the dough fluffy), spatula, and powder sieve.

Sorry for the messy kitchen. These are all the ingredients and plastics we get from the box. There’s a step-by-step instruction paper with real photos of the dough. Seems like a no-brainer that you won’t fail this unless you’re just really bad.

And apparently, I’m just really bad. Look at the difference. LOL.

Expectation VS Reality

In terms of taste, the macarons are too dry and don’t really have any taste except sweet. The filling flavor doesn’t really add any wow factor to everything.

I’m sure I didn’t mess up any part of the recipe, so if this is bad, it’s the fault of the ingredients.

In conclusion, it’s just bland. Don’t make this for your boyfriend on Valentine’s day.
